Volunteering in Monastery

After a full month of volunteering in rural Nepal, I’m off to my next destination in Thalyin, Myanmar. I’ve volunteered for many years at this point, with several NGOs across the world. Normally, volunteering boiled down to contributing one type of service: manual labor. Whether I was building schools and homes, landscaping, or taking care of animals, there was always a physical aspect to my work. I love it, despite the physical toll it can take on your body. I consider it one of the most direct ways to affect change through volunteering. There was, however, one activity I’ve consciously...

All Hands Volunteering Experience Nepal

I have finished my month volunteering with All Hands Volunteers in Nepal. This was my first full month of volunteering, though I have to say, it was more like having a full time job. I worked from 7:00AM to 4:30PM, Monday through Saturday, with just one day off per week. It has been one of the most rewarding volunteer experiences to date. I finally arrived in Nepal for a full month of  Volunteering and I must say it has been something beyond comparison in my life. I arrived in the remote village of Thulopakhar not really knowing what to expect. Surrounded by smiling villagers, extraordinary scenic beauty, and dozens of fellow volunteers, I grew to realize I was in for a special experience.     The Earthquake   An earthquake of epic proportions hit Nepal in the spring of 2015. In its wake, it left over 9,000 dead and tens of thousands injured. It’s estimated that nearly 5,000 schools were destroyed, which...

As I have learned while traveling, things can change at a moment’s notice, and you have to be able to adapt. I was doing some online marketing for another company even though it was not something I was passionate about such as volunteering. Still, I worked for them because it paid the bills, which I am sure is something most of us can relate to.  Unfortunately, the company I was working for was forced to shut down and left me in a position where I had no other source of income and needed to reevaluate my plans. After spending...

Full Moon Party Koh Phangan 2017

After mom left me in Krabi, I decided that I would spend some time on the island and to be precise I would go to the Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan. It was also a great chance to interact with other fellow travelers and unwind a little. After working overnights online back at home in Chiang Mai, I wasn’t able to get a chance to interact much because of that schedule. So I ended up booking a stay in a hostel in Koh Phangan, which I figured would be a better way to meet people as opposed to staying in a...
